A VOICE IN MY HEAD? "Who am I?" -that is the question the ego avoids at all costs. After seriously asking yourself this question within yourself, listen to what that voice that lives with you in your mind is telling you: that is your ego. And if you say, "What voice? I don't hear anything. The one who speaks is precisely that voice in your head, the thinker, the unobserved mind, that is, your ego. Are you able to recognise this even for an instant? See what happens when you say, "I am". Yes, I am, but what? -asks your ego. Saying "I am being, simply" leaves your mind unsatisfied. Why? It is as if an entity has possessed you and lived in your brain for so long that you are no longer able to recognise it without intimate and sustained examination. Some people remember well that time when they stopped identifying with their thoughts. For others it happens so subtly that they are barely aware of it and, perhaps if only for a few moments, they feel a certain liberation, as if a weight has been lifted, or a serene joy, an inner peace, familiar but normally unknown. The insane are absorbed in their thoughts and talk endlessly to themselves out loud, unconscious to people and context. The sane who call such people "madmen" do something similar, only mentally, not aloud. The difference is one of degree, not gender. It is not healthy to be well-adjusted in a sick and demented society. Often "normal" is the most absurd and crazy... You already know that, don't you?
