Jordi Santonja Sala
My name is Jorge I. Santonja Sala. I was born in 1967 in Alcoi. A multidisciplinary artist, mine is a late vocation, especially after studying illustration and design at the Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño de Alcoy in 2013.
My specialty is drawing. Drawing is also part of another discipline I am starting a project of great interest to me. The graphic novel is an art style that until recently was not considered as such, but that in recent times is gaining relevance and acquiring the prominence it deserves. I also experiment with photography and digital art.
My approach to drawing is from an amateur perspective; it is a way of giving an outlet for creativity under my artistic influences.
In some of my works, it is evident that my drawings are closer to the perspective of illustrations and posters than to academic drawing, always considering the fact that drawing is what I like and that creating through a pencil and paper is how I relate to my environment.
Heavily influenced by classical culture, the basis of the modern concept of art, I, like Ruskin, am more interested in form, volume, and light than in color. Mine is a black and white art looking for the renaissance conception of drawing, where drawing was considered a valuable art form in itself. Therefore, my look at classical antiquity leads me to a preoccupation with elements such as geometry, perspective, proportion, composition, and chiaroscuro.
At this point appears the eternal dilemma between the craftsman and the artist. I believe the basis of art is in craftsmanship; this is how the Bauhaus considered it. I think the nexus of creativity relate to all types of art; some art and others are nothing more than different faces of the same creative spirit. In my case, I do not differentiate the artistic motivation that leads me to draw or experiment with new technologies.
Some handle the concept of art as something much more elevated, but I believe such a dilemma does not exist when talking about those who work with reality and model it from their point of view and their tools, whose aim is creation in any of its manifestations.
Artistic works in other field, the novel "Presencias en la Noche".
