Jesús Tarruella

Jesus Tarruella was born in Villena,Alicante, in 1962.

He graduated in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia in 1986.
Currently, he is a Professor of the Theory and Practice of Photography at the Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño de Alcoy.

At the beginning of his artistic career, his artwork was focused mainly on painting than photography. In that first period, it is worth mentioning that he won several national awards and was a finalist in the first edition of "Banesto Foundation Grant for Artistic Creation" in Madrid. 

In the final years of the 80ies, he quits painting to dedicate his career to photography. A self-taught photographer at first, he was captivated by the documental aspect an image can represent. This interest grew until it became the foundation of his artistic style. 
His most important series to be highlighted are "Arquiteturas Perdidas" and "Cartas de un Náufrago".

In more than 30 years of artistic career, he has participated in numerous group exhibitions with nationally renowned photographers and solo exhibitions in Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, and Alicante. Despite this, Jesus Tarruella sustains that his most important accomplishment in his career is his work as a professor. His years of teaching allowed him to teach and train a new generation of relevant photographers already launching successful careers.
